MSC Magnifica to spend 2 days in Southampton on 26 February 2010

The UK is to be given a preview of MSC Cruises new ship MSC Magnifica.
Members of the UK travel trade and media are expected to attend an event in Southampton on February 26.
The showcase party will be the first event to be held on the 3,000-passenger ship, which is currently being fitted out at the STX Europe shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
MSC Magnifica will spend two days and nights in Southampton before cruising to Hamburg for its official naming ceremony on March 6.
Guests will participate in a specific programme of events, which will include information on all 2011 itineraries and witness the exchanging of the crest; an official ceremony to mark MSC Magnifica’s maiden port of call to Southampton, which will take place on February 27.
The ship will be the fourth vessel to join the Musica Class, already comprising of MSC Poesia (named in Dover, UK, in 2008), MSC Orchestra (2007) and MSC Musica (2006).
MSC Magnifica will cruise year round in the Eastern Mediterranean from Venice on a seven-night itinerary, calling at Bari, Katakolon, Izmir, Istanbul and Dubrovnik.
The decision to hold such an event in the UK came as a result of MSC Cruises UK and Ireland achieving such high growth rates in 2009, the company said.
UK and Ireland managing director Giulio Libutti said: “This is the perfect unique opportunity for agents and media to experience the excitement of a new ship and MSC Cruises new product right here in the UK.
