Re: Bar prices onboard ships. Are you getting value for money?
by Anonymous
Just back from a week on Voyager of the Seas and all drinks have "Tax" of 7% added to the price, then the Gratuity of 15% added to this. I know that the staff are generally paid a low wage by the Cruise companies and depend on their tips to make a few pounds on top. So price for a Smirnoff Ice was $5.25 plus tax of 36 cents plus gratuity of 84 cents = $6.45, approx. £3.90. A bottle of corona was $5.50, tax of 38 cents, tip of 88 cents, approx. £4.09. A Pint of Beer worked out at approx. £4.80, a Cappuchino cost approx. £2 although ordinary Coffee and Tea around the ship was free. Just can,t figure out what the Tax is for.
